I was delighted to be one of six artists selected to work on the Pysanky Egg Art Trail for Eurolearn .
The community engagement programme for Eurovision 2023.
They can be seen at Liverpool One until the 15th May.
The Process
I worked with the lovely year 4 class from Murdishaw West Community Primary School in Runcorn to design one of the giant eggs. Their ideas were absolutely brilliant and full of joy it was such a pleasure to work with them. We explored the themes of coming together, being united through music and things that have a positive effect on our wellbeing.
I gathered together all of their drawings, designs and ideas and came up with a few concepts which I presented to them, then we discussed the designs and concepts and the class voted on their favourite and then made a few more amends and suggestions. I then created the design digitally and presented it to them before painting it.
We had a zoom call while I was painting it so that the children could see how I painted it and ask any questions about the materials and techniques.
The Finished Egg – ‘Morris- The Murdichords Caring Owl
Morris, The Murdichords Caring Owl, can be seen hugging a happy bunch of characters including a singing sunflower, the national flower of Ukraine; a jolly ice-cream; and a nightingale, the national bird of Ukraine.
The design features a lot of symbolism. The butterfly symbolises positive change and a love of nature. The acorn symbolises strength and persistence as well nature’s positive effect on mental health and wellbeing. The sunshine represents warmth, happiness and well-being. There is even a happy milkshake, representing the school’s ‘Milkshake Mondays with the Headteacher’, which selected children attend for demonstrating the school values. There are also lots of hearts and flowers to spread love to the Ukrainian community and to send out positive vibes throughout Liverpool and Europe.
We had a super exciting press launch for the eggs, read more about them below….
