I was commissioned earlier this year by Chorlton Voice, the organisers of Chorlton Arts Festival, to paint a mural on two sides of the lift shaft at Chorlton Tram Stop in South Manchester. I was absolutely delighted to be chosen and for me the obvious choice for the subject matter had to be Batman the famous tram cat!
he his pictured here strutting along to peep at the trams on the tracks below, above him are some swifts which come to the area each year and below is a couple of gold crests spotted in gardens in the local area.
I worked closely with members of Chorlton voice to finalise the design, which also features a parakeet representing the fact that a wide variety of people from many different places, come to Chorlton, feel welcome and make it their home – just like the parakeets.
The other birds, representing the diversity of the area, and celebrating local wildlife, include a grey heron, a crested grebe and some mandarin ducks, all of these can be seen at Chorlton Water Park.
And the best thing of all is that I was graced with a visit from the cat himself while I was painting :-)
